VISITING LOS ANGELES

There are literally thousands of things to do while you are in Los Angeles, also popularly known as the City of Angels. And while it is unlikely that you can experience all of them in just one trip, there are several that you should not fail to see on your first visit. Aside from having your photo taken with the famous “Hollywood” sign as your background, here are some of the other things that should be included in your itinerary.

  1. Natural History Museum

Everything is as grand as you can possibly imagine when it comes to the Natural History Museum. This majestic museum, which has recently just turned 100 years old, showcases various pieces representing history, art, and science. It has also opened its newest permanent exhibit called “Becoming L.A.,” a chronicle of sorts that piece together the rich and diverse history of the city through artifacts. Here, you will see a sandal worn by a 19th-century monk, an Eames chair dated back to the 50s, and several costumes worn by Charlie Chaplin said to be from the 30s.

  1. Lake Hollywood Reservoir

After a hiatus that resulted in it closing down for seven years, the pedestrian trail surrounding the picturesque and quaint Hollywood Hills reservoir has finally opened again. If you’re in town during the late summer season or during fall time, make sure that you pay this lovely place a visit. It is especially great for a stroll with your kids, thanks to the beauty of nature that it is well-known for. Various species of eucalyptus, pine, and oak trees can be found here. Plus, you will gain access to some of the best places to spot the Hollywood Sign from here as well.

  1. Malibu Country Mart

If one of the reasons you are headed to Los Angeles is to do some shopping, then the Malibu Country Mart should be included in your list of stops-to-make. This outdoor mall, which sits right beside the sea, is packed full of shops that offer upscale and designer pieces. Michael Stars, Babakul, and a huge Urban Outfitters store have recently been added to the mall. If luck is on your side, you may just see some celebrities shopping here too.

  1. The Huntington Library

Rumors claim that the Huntington Library houses some of the most famous works of art from the likes of Thomas Gainsborough, specifically “The Blue Boy,” as well as documents of extreme importance, like a Canterbury Tales copy, the Gutenberg Bible, and a portion of Hamlet. Bad news though is that no one is allowed inside.

This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t pay it a visit – the botanical gardens, which is a sprawling 120 acres – can only be described as amazing, majestic, and awe-inspiring. Of course, flower and herb gardens are already to be expected, but these are not the only things that make them great. You’ll find entire ecosystems here that will surely make the trip worth it.

  1. J. Paul Getty Museum

Last, but not the least, we have the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. With the Getty Trust being extremely considerable, you can expect the art here to be some of the most expensive pieces you will ever encounter. But that’s not all you can get to do while in this area. Family-friendly activities, such as hiking up a large hill, taking a stroll around the gardens, and checking out the other sights to behold are just some of them.
